Introduction

In response to the high demand for sealing packages of skin care cream, I designed an innovative sealing structure to enhance both the sealing and usage experience at the same time.

Background

Package of skin care cream has high requirements for sealing, weather for daily use, carry-on, or transportation, the package must ensure the quality of the product to meet the expectation of customers for product safety and effectiveness.

Currently, the packing of skincare cream mainly uses plug and thread to solve the sealing problem, but these two forms have an obvious impact on user experience. Besides, there are problems, such as loose structure, differences to clean and unstable sealing.

Painpoints

Problem with threaded sealing structures

  • Threaded are not easy to clean and may accumulate dirt during use.

  • Need to add internal masking, adding unnecessary accessories.

  • Complicated opening, affecting the smoothness of use.

Problem with plug-sealing structures

  • The structure is easy to loosen, resulting in packaging instability during use

  • Effort to open the bottle cap, poor experience

Solution

In order to enhance sealing and improve the user experience, we carried out an innovative design, using a combination of magnets, air valves and suction cups to achieve a smell vacuum sealing effect.

Comparison Tests

  • Sealing Effect

  • The bottle was filled 1/2 with water, placed horizontally inside the test device, and the device was turned on until the air pressure reached 0.06 MPa and held for 5 minutes.

In this comparative test, only this bottle design did not experience any water leakage.

  • Experience Effect

The magnetic structure allows the user to unpack with a gentle push without excessive force, thus avoiding the inconvenience of traditional plugs or threads.

Structural Iteration

Plan A

Inspired by the suction cups, there are hales on the top of suction cup. The sealing effect is achieved by squeezing out a small amount of air through the downward pressure of the suction cups.

Problem

Too many parts, complex assembly.
Internal space cannot be compressed.
Suction cups with exhaust port require high structural accuracy, poor sealing effect.

Plan B

The combination of the suction cup and the one-way valve realizes a tiny vacuum effect for a reliable sealing effect. Utilizing the attraction of the magnet, the suction cups are slightly squeezed to deform, and at the same time, the gas inside the bottle is discharged through the one-way valve, so that the bottle reaches a vacuum state.

Plan B-1

This structure has a superb seal.

We have designed bottles with straight lids and flip lids. This structure can be used in both kinds of bottles.

Problem:

The lid is too large.

Plan B-2

In this version, we reduced the size of the bottle lid to make it more aesthetic in apparence.

Problem:

Too many magnets.

The internal structure is exposed and the inside of the cap is unsightly.

Plan B-3

In this version, we use iron rings and large magnets instead of small magnets, in order to minimize the use of magnets and ease assembly.

Besides, we add flake to the inside of the lid to cover the structure.

Problem:

The hole at the top is not good looking.

Final Version

We removed the top hole by moving the hole to the inside of the lid instead.
